A special home game awaits our Austria women on Saturday. In the round of 16 of the ÖFB Frauen Cup, head coach Robert Micheu's side host reigning Austrian champions and title holders FK Austria Wien. Kick-off at the Wörthersee Stadion is at 1:00 pm. For our Violets, it is a chance to measure themselves against one of the strongest teams in Austrian women's football in front of a home crowd.
Anticipation ahead of the cup clash is high. FK Austria Wien come to Klagenfurt not only as reigning champions, but also as a club representing Austria on the international stage in the UEFA Women's Champions League this season. The role of favourite is therefore clearly assigned, but our Austria women are ready to take on the challenge and make the afternoon as difficult as possible for their opponents from Vienna.
Recent weeks have shown that our team can go into this fixture with confidence. Most recently the Violets celebrated a 4-2 home win against GAK 1902, remaining unbeaten in their third league game in a row. In the 2. Frauen Bundesliga table, our Austria currently sit in second place.
Our women have also impressed in the ÖFB Frauen Cup already. A 4-0 away win against SG Geretsberg/Bürmoos secured the team's place in the round of 16. Now a considerably bigger challenge awaits in the shape of the Austrian champions.
For this special match, our Violets are swapping their usual Karawankenblick Stadion for the Wörthersee Stadion. There, the team want to enjoy a special cup afternoon together with the Austria fans and do everything they can to push the favourites from Vienna.
