After six intensive weeks of preparation, things finally get serious for SK Austria Klagenfurt on Friday.
The Violets travel to Regionalliga Süd side ATUS Fliesen Koller Velden in the first round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. Kick off at the Waldarena Velden is at 19:00.
With numerous young homegrown players, several new signings and experienced leaders, the Austria begin the new season. The objective is clear: to open the competition with a positive result and secure a place in the second round.
Goalkeeper Manuel Kuttin is looking forward to the season opener with great anticipation.
"The team is ready for the match against Velden. We've prepared really well and worked hard over the last six weeks, we've had an excellent preseason, we've put together a strong group with young players and a few established figures, and we're genuinely hungry for the start. That's why we absolutely want to come off the pitch as winners against Velden."
Head coach Slobodan Grubor and his staff are well aware of the opponent's quality, but after an intensive preseason they want to bring their strengths to the pitch from the first whistle and take the first competitive win of the new season.
The cup tie in Velden marks the start of SK Austria Klagenfurt's 2026/27 competitive season. Just one week later, the away fixture at SV Donau Klagenfurt opens the Regionalliga Süd campaign, before SK Treibach visit the Wörthersee Stadion on 7 August for the first home game of the season.
